Winter School The journey of the end-stage lung disease: diagnosis, transplantation, and post- transplantation management

The Winter School in “The journey of the end-stage lung disease: diagnosis, transplantation, and management of the post-transplantation” is designed for medical and postgraduate students, residents, PhD candidates, and young specialists who wish to deepen their knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic advancements in the field of end-stage lung disease (ESLD), one of the most challenging frontiers in pulmonary medicine. Particular attention will be devoted to pathology and pathology-related aspects, given their central role in both diagnosis and transplant management.

The program develops a progressive educational path that explores past knowledge and current discoveries, combining interactive lectures, case presentations, and problem-based learning sessions. Practical workshops will focus on digitalized slide review with faculty discussions. Participants will also have the opportunity to submit one of their own particularly interesting clinico-pathological cases, which will be discussed collectively during the in-person congress in the presence of experts and fellow attendees. The faculty will select and acknowledge the best case with the most effective presentation.

Building on the longstanding expertise of two leading European centers, Padova and Lausanne, the School reflects the truly multidisciplinary nature of ESLD, integrating pulmonology, radiology, pathology, surgery, anesthesiology, immunology, and patient advocacy. This joint initiative provides a unique opportunity for high-level scientific training, international networking, and cross-border academic mobility. By combining pathology workshops and patient-centered sessions, the School offers a comprehensive and innovative educational model. Ultimately, it aims to enhance participants’ clinical and research skills, stimulate international collaboration, and contribute to the training of future leaders in the management of complex pulmonary diseases and transplantation.
